Limerick FC's preparations for the new season were thrown into turmoil on Friday as manager Mike Kerley tendered his resignation, just two weeks before the 2009 campaign kicks off.

A statement on Limerick's official website said that the club were disappointed by the decision but thanked Kerley for his contribution. Kerley took up the post in December 2007 and led the club to a fifth place finish in his first season in charge.

The club added in the statement that it will finalise its squad early next week for the forthcoming league campaign. Earlier on Friday, Limerick confirmed the signing of ex-Notts County and Barnsley defender Brian O'Callaghan on a one-year deal.

The Blues kick off their season on Friday 6th March away to UCD. Their first home match will be against newly promoted Mervue United at Jackman Park a week later.
