League of Ireland newcomers Mervue United have unveiled four new signings as they begin to assemble a squad to compete in the First Division.

Damien O'Rourke, Ryan Griffin, and Nicky Curran were officially added to the squad at the club's press launch on Tuesday, while the club were also pleased to reveal the signing of experienced League of Ireland campaigner and Galway native Nigel Keady as their latest addition yesterday.

Keady, who has had spells with Galway United, Limerick, and Athlone Town, will fly out today to join his new team-mates at their training camp in Marbella and has already been impressed with the Mervue United set up and the professionalism that both Johnny Glynn and Mark Herrick have brought to the club.

O'Rourke, 27, is a defender who hails from Shannon and spent time with Cork City before travelling to the US where he studied for four years at George Mason University in Virginia and was selected as Rookie of the Year for the 12-team CAA championship in 2002.

Nicky Curran joins the club from Salthill Devon where he played for the A Championship side last year. Curran, who can play in defence or midfield, was also a squad member at Galway United for three seasons between 2003 and 2006.

Ryan Griffin has been drafted in to provide competition for the goalkeeping position. Griffin was previously with the club when they first embarked on a League of Ireland campaign in the U21 competition and played in the side that was beaten in the Enda McGill Cup final of 2003 by Longford Town. In recent years, Griffin has been a stalwart for junior side Corrib Rangers and was rewarded for his fine form with the 'keeper's jersey for this season's Galway and District League Oscar Traynor Trophy campaign.
