Comfortable wins for both Rovers
Shamrock Rovers ran out 2-0 winners against LSL outfit Phoenix in a friendly at Scribblestown on Tuesday evening.
A first half strike from Shane Robinson sent the Hoops on their way, before Tadgh Purcell sealed the victory midway through the second half with a superb strike from the edge of the area following a fine passing move. The game saw UCD defender line out at left-back for Rovers.
In the night's other friendly, Sligo Rovers ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over First Division Longford Town in Ballinasloe. Rafael Cretaro opened the scoring for Sligo from the penalty spot on ten minutes, before Paul Curry added a second just before half time.
Substitute Owen Morrison added a third ten minutes from the end with a shot from the edge of the area.
Finn Harps friendly against Institute was cancelled earlier in the day.
Wednesday night sees another busy night of friendly action, with pick of the fixtures the game between St Patrick's Athletic and a Chelsea XI at Richmond Park (19:45). Elsewhere, Bohemians travel to Balbriggan to take on Glebe North (19:30), while Galway United welcome Paul Doolin's Cork City to Terryland Park (19:00). Wexford Youths take on Dundalk (20:00) at the latter's Football Complex.
