Weekend friendlies round-up
It was another busy weekend of friendly action as sides from both Premier and First divisions step up their preparations for the new season.
On Friday night, Derry City maintained their unbeaten start to pre-season with a 1-1 draw against First Division outfit Sporting Fingal at the Brandywell. James McClean's deflected shot had put the Candystripes into the lead, but a late strike from Eamon Zayed ensured a share of the spoils for Fingal. Honours were also even in Friday night's other fixture with Wexford Youths holding St Patrick's Athletic to a scoreless draw at Ferrycarraig Park.
On Saturday, Premier League champions Bohemians swept aside Longford Town at Flancare Park, with goals from Glen Crowe, Brian Shelley and Neale Fenn seeing the Gypsies to a comfortable 3-0 victory. Elsewhere, Bray Wanderers also enjoyed a comfortable win over Shelbourne at Wayside Celtic's ground in Kilternan. Paddy Kavanagh fired the Seagulls into the lead shortly before half-time, with Darren Forsyth and substitute Fernando adding two more after the break. Shels grabbed a consolation in the dying moments when Dave McAlister slotted home from the penalty spot after Derek Foran had handled in the box.
In Sunday's only fixture, Kildare County and Wexford Youths played out a 1-1 draw at Station Road.
