In Focus: Caroline Seger (Paris Saint Germain)
UEFA have released a list of players in the running for the 2013/14 UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe Award. WNL.ie reporter Rachael Stack will be taking a closer look at each player on the list. This article focuses on Caroline Seger.
Caroline Seger is a 29 year old professional soccer player from Sweden. Caroline signed for Tyresö FF in 2012, during her time at the club she won the 2012 Damallsvenskan title and competed in this year’s UEFA Champions League final.
Unfortunately Tyresö FF was narrowly beaten on the night by VFL Wolfsburg of Germany after holding a 2 – 0 lead at half time. It was obvious Tyresö FF was in financial trouble in the week coming up to the UEFA Champions League final and afterwards the club called a haul to their involvement in the league and released their players.
Caroline recently signed for French giants Paris Saint Germain and in the past week competed in Valais Cup pre season tournament. PSG reached the final of the tournament that included RSC Anderlecht, FC Barcelona and Olympique Lyonnais. PSG faced a 3 -2 defeat to their closest rivals Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon). Seger scored a late equaliser which looked to be sending the teams to extra time but Hegerberg scored the decisive third goal on the 93rd minute to seal it for Lyon.
Internationally, Caroline is a key component of the Swedish International team and shares captaincy with star striker Lotta Schelin. Caroline has represented her country at the past three UEFA European Championships and the previous two FIFA World Cups and Olympic Games. During her time Internationally Caroline has won the following:
2006, 2009, 2011: Best Swedish Midfield Player
