UEFA have released a list of players in the running for the 2013/14 UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe Award. WNL.ie reporter Rachael Stack will be taking a closer look at each player on the list. This article focuses on Alexandra Popp.

Alexandra Popp is a 23 year old professional footballer from Germany. Alexandra is a striker and is part of the successful Wolfsburg squad who have won the UEFA Women's Champions League and Bundesliga for two consecutive years in a row.

Since signing for Wolfsburg in 2012, Alexandra has five titles so far at the club which include the UEFA Women's Champions League, DFB Cup and Bundesliga title. Prior to signing for Wolfsburg Alexandra played for FCR 2001 Duisburg. While at Duisburg she won the UEFA Women's Cup and German Cup title twice.

Internationally Alexandra plays for Germany, she won her first International title versus France in 2008 scoring in the UEFA U17 European Championship final. Alexandra also won the 2008 bronze medal at the FIFA U17 World Cup. In 2010, she was crowned FIFA U20 World cup champion at home in Germany and is currently tied as top goal scorer in the competition with ten goals. In recent days, Alexandra was awarded the German Player of the Year and has extended her current contract for her club Wolfsburg to 2016. You can watch her in action in the Bundesliga via DFB TV as she hopes to win the Champions League for the 3rd year in a row and become the first ever male/female club to do so.
