Cook returns to Sligo hot-seat

Paul Cook has returned to his position as manager of Sligo Rovers, the club announced on Wednesday evening.

Cook guided Sligo to fourth in the league and a European qualification spot last year. However, he sensationally resigned at the end of last month as he was unhappy with the budget which was allocated to him for the coming season, which will see Sligo battle on five fronts.

Within two days, though, the club stated that Cook could re-enter the hot-seat at the Showgrounds, subject to conditions. A fundraiser was organised and twelve donations of €5,000 were also sought, in order to raise money to assist Cook in building a squad which he feels is necessary to compete this year. It was stated that if the funds were gathered by Saint Valentine's Day, the Liverpudlian would be reinstated, and the club have now confirmed that Cook will lead them into the 2009 season.

Sligo have set a press conference for Thursday to give "futher information" on these latest developments. The club, incidentally, has currently only two pre-season friendlies arranged, the first of which comes on Saturday week against Premier Division newcomers Dundalk, who former Sligo boss Sean Connor will take to the Western town for an overnight trip for the match.
