Coleman Hopes of Change in Style of Play as Daryl Kavanagh Signs
John Coleman said that the club have “decided to go down a different route and with a different style of play” at Sligo Rovers and the final days of the Irish transfer window showed he was staying true to his word.
The Sligo boss has his eye on next season as he secured three bright prospects to new contracts that would keep them at Sligo for the next season. Ruairi Keating, Regan Donelon and Jake Dykes all signed deals until the end of 2015 and Dykes also left on loan to Ballinamallard in Northern Ireland until the end of 2014.
Then more players started to leave. First Ross Gaynor left to join Cork City before Kieran Djilali and Jospeh Ndo departed the club to join Limerick. It should be noted though that Ndo is only there on loan until the end of the season. Striker Aaron Greene also left Sligo and joined reigning champions St Patrick’s Athletic.
But it wasn’t just outgoing traffic from the Showgrounds as Sligo also completed a number of signings themselves. Former player Iarfhlaith Davoren re-joined the club from Cork City while striker Sean Maguire has signed another loan deal from West Ham, which means he will be at the club until 29 August 2014.
The club also announced the signing of Eamon Zayed on loan from Shamrock Rovers until the end of the season very late last night and, just before they were to play St Patrick’s Athletic, they revealed that Daryl Kavanagh has joined until the end of the season from them. Wide-man Kavanagh played thirteen times for the Saints in the league this season.
Coleman’s much changed side didn’t get off to an ideal new start against St Patrick’s Athletic, losing 1-0, which means that Coleman now has a record so far of one win, one draw and two defeats in the league. But it is it is hoped that the new players pass muster for Coleman as they enter the last round of fixtures.
