Hello, Goodbye as Limerick shuffle the pack
Lee Lynch, Shane O’Connor and Jack Doherty were the latest signings completed by Limerick FC as the transfer window closed on a final, and oddly exciting, deadline day. The club also confirmed that Barry Sheedy has also left the club.
The recent mad rush all started last Sunday when it was announced that Shaun Kelly was leaving the club to join Derry City in order to be closer to his newly enlarged family. Fans had no time for complaint, as three days later Limerick completed the signings of Joseph Ndo on loan and Kieran Djilali on a free transfer. Both came from Sligo Rovers, who themselves were doing a bit of summer shopping and downsizing. And finally, on the final day, Limerick have a signed a further three players.
Local Lee J Lynch joins Limerick on a deal until the end of the season after leaving St Patrick’s Athletic earlier that day. The 22-year old played in seventeen of the reigning champions league games so far this season, and leaves them in third place. Before the move to St. Pat’s, he was a title and FAI Cup winner at Sligo Rovers. He also previously played for Drogheda United, Jerez Industrial and West Brom.
Lynch told LimerickFC.ie that he was “delighted to be here” and that he was “looking forward to getting going.” The midfielder was also happy with other signings that Limerick have made, saying “Martin Russell has made some really good signings and I’m hoping we can all gel with the lads that are already here and help Limerick to push up the table.”
Jack Doherty has been signed from Ipswich Town and was most recently on loan at First Division side Waterford United. He made sixteen appearances, scoring twice, and leaves them currently in sixth place. The left winger signed for Ipswich in July 2013 after impressing at Waterford United when he broke into the first team in 2011.
Shane O’Connor has been on trial at the club recently and played in Limerick’s friendly against QPR’s u21 side. O’Connor was picked up early in Ireland and was a part of the Liverpool Academy before moving to Ipswich Town. He went out on loan to Port Vale for two months in November 2011 before returning to Ireland to play for Cork City, Shamrock Rovers and Portadown.
Speaking about the triple final day signings, Martin Russell said he was “delighted all three lads are on board.” He also said that “they fit the profile of being talented young players who are eager to do well. They should prove to be very worthwhile additions to our group.”
While three move in, one leaves Limerick. The club have confirmed that 20-year old striker Barry Sheedy has left. Limerick thanks Barry for his hard work and commitment during his time here and wish him all the very best in the future.
