In Focus: Nadine Kessler (VFL Wolfsburg)
UEFA have released a list of players in the running for the 2013/14 UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe Award. WNL.ie reporter Rachael Stack will be taking a closer look at each player on the list. This article focuses on VFL Wolfsburg player Nadine Kessler.
Nadine Kessler is a 26 year old professional player from Germany.
Kessler currently plays her club football with VFL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Kessler joined Wolfsburg from Turbine Potsdam in the 2011/2012 season. In her first season they were runners up in the league but it was in 2013 season they made their mark. Nadine is a creative midfielder and was part of the squad that won the treble of the Bundesliga, DFB Pokal and UEFA Champions League.
In the past season Nadine has once again been on a high winning streak as she captained her team to the double and their second consecutive win of both the Bundesliga and Champions League.
Internationally Nadine is a regular in the Germany national side. At International level Nadine has won the following:
- UEFA Women’s European Champions 2013
- FIFA U17 World Cup 2008
- UEFA U19 European Championship 2006, 2007
Nadine was also nominated in last year’s UEFA European player of the year shortlist. You can watch her in action in the Bundesliga via DFB TV as she hopes to win the Champions League for the 3rd year in a row and become the first ever male/female club to do so.
