Shels sign Quigley and Madden
Shelbourne have completed the signings of defender Stephen Quigley from Waterford United and striker Paddy Madden, on-loan, from Bohemians.
Quigley, a 24-year-old right-back, was with Saint Patrick's Athletic in the Premier Division for five straight seasons, before transferring to Dundalk midway through 2007 to aid their promotion push. Despite impressing, however, Quigley found it impossible to dislodge John Flanagan from the team and played only a limited role as the Lilywhites eventually lost out to Finn Harps in the playoffs.
The Dubliner subsequently moved to Waterford at the beginning of last year and played in 27 of their 36 league games as the Blues, after a sustained promotion challenge throughout, faded late on in the campaign to finish a disappointing fourth. With budget cuts forced at the RSC in the close season, however, and new manager Stephen Henderson looking for a more locally based squad, Quigley was once again forced to look elsewhere for employment and arrives at Tolka Park to replace the outgoing Alan Murphy.
Madden, meanwhile, makes the short move from Dalymount Park in search of more first-team opportunities. The 18-year-old forward was with WFTA before signing for Bohemians in July of last year. He was a prolific scorer in the Gypsies' A-team, who reached the final of the A Championship before losing to UCD. Madden made his senior debut in Bohs' penultimate game of the season away to Cobh Ramblers last November, but is sure to have more regular football this term with Shels, where he will battle with Anto Flood and Peter Hynes for the two starting slots in attack.
