Galway FC announce the signing of Enda Curran

It was announced on Tuesday evening that Galway FC had acquired the services of free agent and former Derry City striker Enda Curran.

And with the transfer window activity now in full flux, the time has come for clubs up and down the country to make some mid-season changes to their squads – an opportunity that Galway manager Tommy Dunne was keen not to waste.

Released by Derry towards the end of May, Curran brings a wealth of League of Ireland experience with him having featured for Galway United, Mervue United, Salthill Devon and Athlone Town.

In fact, while at Athlone Town, he played a pivotal role in helping former Athlone manager Roddy Collins guide the team to the Premier Division.

Featuring for Derry City a dozen times already so far this season, he netted two goals for the Candystripes.

Curran is the fourth new signing in less than a month after Dunne also brought Robbie Egan and Aaron McDonagh on board to help strengthen Galway’s cause.

As well as this, Padraic Cunningham was recently drafted in to give the Galwegians a massive promotion boost.

Speaking about the capture of Curran, Dunne was keen to hone in on the positives he can bring to the club following a humbling 3-0 loss to Longford last Friday that sees them now playing catch-up on the breakaway pair of both Shelbourne and Tony Cousins' charges:

“We are happy to have Enda on board,” Dunne said.

“He has trained with us and we were keen to get him in to the club because he gives us another option in attack.

“It was disappointing for us to lose to Longford Town last Friday and we know that the next few weeks will be vital for us.

“We have signed a number of promising young players recently, but it was important to also get somebody like Enda in and we think he can make an impact for us.”
