Don Givens has named 3 débutants in his starting XI for the visit of Germany at Turner’s Cross, tomorrow night (K.0 7.30 pm).

The defensive duo of Brendan Moloney and centre-back Shane Lowry will make their first appearances for the Under 21’s, while Cilian Sheridan, the Celtic striker on loan at Motherwell will also make his début for the side.

However, Eddie Nolan, the team’s usual captain, has been called up to the senior squad so Givens has had to plan without the services of the Preston North End player.

Recently crowned U21 player of the year, Owen Garvan will start in a 3-man midfield, with James Mc Carthy and Stephen Gleeson lining up alongside the Ipswich Town 21-year-old.

Former Cork City player, David Meyler makes his return to Leeside but will start on the bench. The 19-year-old has featured prominently for Sunderland’s reserves and has made the first team’s bench on a couple of occasions since his move to the North-East of England last summer.

The midfielder is used to making first appearance’s at the ‘Cross. He won his first cap for the U-19’s against France less than 12 months ago, while his first appearance for City was also on home soil. It looks likely that the 19-year-old will make it a trio of début’s tomorrow night, despite not making the first XI.

Givens has already promised that Bristol City stopper, Stephen Henderson, whose father of the same name is currently the boss of Waterford United, will replace Shane Redmond at half-time. The Germans come to town as heavy favourites. Horst Hrubesch’s side are littered with Bundesliga regulars and will look at this game as a decent workout before the summer’s European Championships in Sweden.

Rouwen Hennings is expected to make his 21st appearance for the side and the striker has already netted on 13 occasions. Brothers, Jerome and Kevin-Prince Boateng are expected to start, while Dennis Aogo and Patrick Ebert will also feature heavily.

The game will be the first played at the ground since the completion of the St.Anne’s End of the ground and prior to the game; Minister Míchael Martin will officially open the stand.

Tickets are available from ticketmaster.ie as well as outside the ground and are priced at €15 for adults and €5 for under-16’s.
