Murphy pips Fahey and Heary to top player gong

Bohemians goalkeeper Brian Murphy was tonight named League Of Ireland Eircom FAI International player of the year.

The Waterford-native, who was a mainstay at the heart of a Bohemians side which won a league and cup double last season, received the accolade at the annual FAI eircom International Soccer Awards in Citywest Hotel, Dublin.

Murphy pipped Keith Fahey (St Patrick's Athletic, now Birmingham City) and Owen Heary (Bohemians) to the gong.

Elsewhere on the night, Reading striker Kevin Doyle was awarded Irish International player of the year. Meanwhile, Celtic winger Aiden McGeady won the Young (under 23) Eircom FAI International player of the year award. He beat off competition from Andy Keogh (Wolves) and Stephen Rice (Shamrock Rovers).
