The best of the Twitter reaction to the Suarez suspension
On Thursday afternoon, the world's football governing body, FIFA, declared at a highly-anticipated press conference that Uruguay's star striker Luis Suarez had received a four month ban from all footballing activity, including a nine-match international ban.
The hefty punishment came hot on the heels of his shocking bite on Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini during the closing stages of their all-important Group D battle – the third time he's bitten an opposing player.
An explosion of social media activity soon ensued as the world took to twitter.
Opinions flooded in as one of the best players on show was being sent home having netted two goals against a now eliminated England side only a few days prior to the incident, at nowhere near full fitness.
The reactions ranged from utter disbelief from countless Liverpool fans, to praise as well as straight-out humour.
And below, we've compiled some of the best reactions to yesterday's big, big news.
ESPN writer and well-known Irish journalist, Miguel Delaney had the following to say:
Liverpool somewhat unfortunate collateral in this. Fifa punishing player, not club... but well within rights to do so.

BBC Presenter Dan Walker was quick to see the positives for a certain England striker:
Looks like Rickie Lambert will be playing a bit more than expected #Suarez

RTE's Andrew Cunneen was quick to poke fun with this tweet:
Gutted for Suarez. Can't even have a game of FIFA. #FootballActivity

Outspoken and controversial former Daily Mirror editor, Piers Morgan weighed in with this:
A gentle nibble for Suarez - he'll be back playing again by end of October. And can pay the fine from 4 days wages.

Adding a humorous twist to proceedings, former Soccer AM co-host, Tim Lovejoy tweeted this:
No football activities? Does that include Vegas holidays, buying expensive sports cars, full sleeve tattoos and sexting models? #SuarezBan
— Tim Lóvejøy (@timlovejoy) June 26, 2014
Daily Mirror contributor Oliver Holt wasn't afraid to see things from Liverpool's perspective:
Nine-match ban for Suarez for Uruguay games is about right but really don't see why Liverpool should have to be punished as well. Bizarre
— Oliver Holt (@OllieHolt22) June 26, 2014
And finally, the fast-growing 8-bit football twitter account let the pixels do the talking:

In truth, there was a lot to divulge for football fans, and while there's much yet that remains unresolved as Suarez's club future hangs in the balance, many are still hopeful the negative drama of it all won't sully what's been a tremendously positive competition, on the pitch at least.
