McNally ends long UCD association
Alan McNally has ended his near ten-year association with UCD by signing for Drogheda United.
The 26-year-old defender has been with the Students since 1999 and is fourth in the club's all-time leading league appearances list.
McNally becomes Alan Mathews' second new signing at Drogheda as he quickly follows goalkeeper Steve Williams in the United Park doors.
Alan made his debut for UCD away to Shelbourne in the 1999/00 season, and came on as a sub in their 5-0 win in Drogheda on the last day of that campaign; a result which secured European football for the Students. Although Alan didn’t play in either Intertoto game, he made himself a fixture in the first-team in 2001/02, scoring a number of important goals, including winners in Tolka Park and Turners Cross.
He had been linked with moves to Cork City and Drogheda in recent seasons, but stayed on at Belfield, until now, as UCD's relegation has prompted his exit.
