Shels' pre-season plans disrupted

Shelbourne’s pre-season preparations have been badly hit with the news this afternoon that both of their games scheduled for this weekend have been called off.

Shels were due to travel to Derry City tonight and Letterkenny Rovers tomorrow afternoon. However, following the recent cold snap, both games have been cancelled.

They were due to be Shels' first warm-up games of the year. For Derry, it was set to be their second pre-season outing but their first in Ireland, after they defeated Danish outfit Esbjerg in Spain last Tuesday.

As a result, new signing, former Shels winger Liam Kearney will have to wait a little longer to make his debut on home soil. Derry continue their build-up to the new season next Tuesday night when they travel to Irish League side Institute, but Kearney won’t be shown off to the Brandywell faithful until Saint Valentine’s night when Sporting Fingal are the visitors to the Northern venue.

Shels will also play on that afternoon against Bray Wanderers at Wayside Celtic's ground (kick-off 2pm), a game which is their next scheduled friendly. With just three warm-up games now set, Reds manager Dermot Keely is certain to look elsewhere for opposition, with Drogheda United a real possibility as they have only one match arranged at this point.
