First Division title favourites Sporting Fingal have added Alan Kirby and Gareth Whelan to their squad, while John Frost has signed permanently after spending the second-half of last season on-loan at the club.

Kirby's previous clubs in the League of Ireland are Longford Town, where he won three cups, Waterford United and most recently Saint Patrick's Athletic. However, the 31-year-old midfielder was released from Richmond Park last November and has decided to drop to the second tier to be part of Fingal's promotion push.

Whelan, on the other hand, is a promising young defender who arrives at the Morton Stadium from Drogheda United. The 21-year-old joined the Boynesiders in early 2005 having previously spent time at Portmarnock, Saint Kevin's Boys and Shelbourne. However, despite his progress to the first-team at United Park, Whelan has chosen to sign for Fingal, where he will join former Drogheda team-mates Shaun Williams and Eamon Zayed.

"These are two vital signings for us," said Sporting manager Liam Buckley. "Alan is a player with considerable experience in the League of Ireland and is a huge addition. Gareth is someone I have been looking at for several months and am delighted he has come on board. He is a player I think we can develop even further into an established defender."

Fingal's impressive squad, as it currently stands, is as follows: Darren Quigley (loan), James Hussey, Brian Gannon, Shaun Williams, Gareth Whelan, Philip Byrne, Stephen Paisley, John Frost, Shane McFaul, Shaun Maher, Fiachra McArdle, Colm James, Conan Byrne, Alan Kirby, Daniel Corcoran, Ross Gaynor, Robbie Doyle, Eamon Zayed, Gary O'Neill.
