Keogh Signs for Glory; Stokes out
Apart from the build up to tomorrow's clash with Italy from the Ireland camp and the obvious story around Roy Keane, some more news was broken this morning.
Celtic striker Anthony Stokes has been ruled out of the Italy clash with a calf injury and will not be travelling with the side to America for the clashes with Costa Rica and Portugal.
Joining him in not being on that flight is John O'Shea, he will lead the team against Italy in London tomorrow night before relinquishing captain's duties to Robbie Keane and taking his summer leave after a roller coaster season for both club and country.
In better news on the Irish front, A man not in the squad this time around, Andy Keogh has made a move to the A League in Australia to join the Perth Glory. Keogh joins Glory on a two year deal with the option of a third and will wear the number 9 shirt.
His new team mate will be an old foe in William Gallas, the man who profited from the Thierry Henry's hand ball in Paris five years ago.
Speaking to the Perth Glory website, Keogh said: “I am looking forward to returning to Perth and to make my mark on the A-League.
“It is a league I have followed closely over the past few years, with my family having moved to Joondalup in recent years and through my close friendship with Millwall defender and former ECU Joondalup player Shane Lowry.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me at Perth Glory and I believe my experience in the Championship will help me adapt quickly to the A-League. “
The Republic of Ireland take on Italy tomorrow at Craven Cottage before flying to Philadelphia to face Costa Rica and then onto New Jersey to clash with Portugal at the home of SuperBowl 48, MetLife Stadium.
