Former Saint Patrick's Athletic schoolboy Andy Haran has signed a professional contract for the club following a successful loan period with First Division side Monaghan United last season.

Andy made his first-team debut for the Saints against UCD in the League Cup last year having played underage football for the club since 2004.

Haran told stpatsfc.com that he was looking forward to the challenge of Premier Division football: “It’s a big step up and a big achievement for me to sign for the first-team, but I think it’s also important for the club to have players coming up through their underage teams.

“I played underage with Noel Haverty and he has been with the first-team for the last couple of years. Also, at the moment, we’ve the likes of Davy Fagan, Anthony Costigan and Stephen Fitzpatrick training with the first-team, which is great to see.”

Haran joined Monaghan in August last year and scored eight goals in 14 appearances for the First Division side as they made a surge up the table in the second-half of the season. The striker returned to Pats for pre-season training and has impressed manager Jeff Kenna with his performances.

“Training at the moment is tough but I’m enjoying it, I’m looking forward to the start of the pre-season friendlies and perhaps bringing over some of the form from last season,” said Haran.

John Murphy, meanwhile, has agreed terms to leave the club. Murphy joined Pat’s from Chester City in July 2008 but struggled with a back injury for most of last season. The club wishes John every success in his future career.
