League Preview: St. Patrick's Athletic -v- Shamrock Rovers
ST PATRICK’S ATHLETIC
St. Patrick’s Athletic, having suffered a heavy defeat last Friday night, bounced back with a 3-1 win last Monday night away to Bray. Christy Fagan, Lee Lynch and Chris Forrester got on the scoresheet in a much needed victory for the Saints after a resounding 4-0 loss the previous Friday at home to Dundalk.
Speaking to the club’s official website, former Shamrock Rovers player, James Chambers looked forward to the game. “First and foremost, it was good to put three points on the board on Monday as we’ve had an awful lot of draws so far. We wanted to bounce back from the defeat against Dundalk as we were all hurting, so I think we put on a performance on Monday,” Chambers said.
“We were a little bit sloppy with giving a goal away, but we went down the other end and got a third so there’s a good atmosphere in the squad as we just wanted to bounce back so we’re delighted to have done that.”
SHAMROCK ROVERS
Shamrock Rovers have had an up down last 7 days with Monday night’s 2-0 win against Dublin rivals UCD coming on the back of a heavy 3-0 defeat away to Cork on Friday last. Boss Trevor Croly travels to his old club St. Pats with a side that are eager to beat their near rivals after their league success last season.
Speaking to the club’s official website Trevor Croly was positive of his side’s chances of picking up a result.
“It’s another big game for both teams. For us, it’s a chance to go top of the league again. And while it’s still very early, you want to be up there as much as possible; that’s where everyone wants to be. We’ll be going into the game with the aim of getting another three points on the board. The team put in an excellent performance on Monday night and I’ll be looking for more of the same on Friday.”
