Cawley becomes a Saint
Saint Patrick's Athletic have announced the signing of Alan Cawley from Bray Wanderers. The midfielder was also the subject of interest from Bohemians, Dundalk and hometown club Sligo Rovers. However, he has opted for a move to Richmond Park.
The 27-year-old previously played for Leeds United and Sheffield Wednesday in England before kicking off his League of Ireland career with UCD in 2002. He went on to play for Shelbourne, Longford Town, Waterford United and most recently Bray, but has now left the Carlisle Grounds to make the Saints his sixth Irish club.
"There had been a bit of interest from one or two clubs," Cawley told stpatsfc.com, "but I was delighted to get the call from Jeff. Pats are one of the best teams in the country, it’s a great opportunity for me to join the side and hopefully things will go well for me. You’d be familiar with a lot of the lads from playing in the league but I know Damien Lynch very well as he looked out for me when I first started out at Leeds and I would also have roomed with Jamie Harris during my time at Shelbourne."
