Drogheda commence the rebuild
Speaking to extratime.ie after a landmark day in Drogheda United’s history club PRO Terry Collins has confirmed that they have already spoken to two candidates in regards to the vacant manager’s position at the club.
“We have roughly 12 candidates interested in the position and we could not speak to them because we were in examinership, but now that is over we began the process in earnest today and we have interviewed two candidates at lunchtime,” he said.
Out of the 12 potential candidates Collins admits that they will most likely interview “six or seven” of them before naming Paul Doolin’s successor early next week.
The current squad is sorely depleted from the league winning side of two years ago and part of the reason they want to quickly instate a new manager is that he can have as much time possible to deal with this situation.
“Part of his remit (new manager) will be to recruit a new squad. We will be starting afresh, we will bring in youth players and we will probably end up trying to consolidate the squad throughout the year,” he explained.
The next step for the Louth side is to apply for their licence to participate in the Premier Division, but Collins is confident that the club will remain in the top flight of Irish soccer against all the odds.
“We are ok now,” is the sentiment emanating from the Drogheda camp. Whoever takes charge at the helm will face a tough task as Drogheda welcome bitter local rivals Dundalk to United Park for a Valentine’s day clash which will certainly be lacking in love and affection.
