League of Ireland Attendances 2014 - Gameweek 2
No matter how hard you try, there will always be an “Estimated” mark beside some games each week in the League of Ireland attendances. We tried, and the lateness of this article was an attempt to make sure we brought you the most accurate weekly figures. Four of the ten crowd counts this week are estimates, however three of those are agreed from multiple sources to achieve the most accurate estimate.
Having hit 20,066 in Gameweek 1, there was always going to be a drop due to the teams playing at home this week. The absence of a Cork-City-sized home attendance in the Premier Division and Galway FC in the First has impacted.
Unlike Gameweek 1’s highest attendance of 5,322 in Turner’s Cross, the Gameweek 2 high comes from a somewhat unexpected source. Athlone Town’s first home game in the top division for many a year resulted in 1,793 paying customers into Athlone Town Stadium. The lowest Premier Division attendance was the scene of the biggest shock as Bray Wanderers defeated Sligo Rovers. An estimated 600 people watched events unfold in the Carlisle Grounds.
Overall, across ten games, 9,685 spectators watched on. A 52% drop on the first week of the 2014 season however that is not necessarily a drop in interest but how the home games fell for this week.
A full breakdown is available below and should any of the four estimated attendances be confirmed with official attendances we will update the entire article. Our hope is by the end of the season we will be bringing you ten official attendances without the usage of an (est) beside a fixture.
