Referee Alan Kelly has been appointed to a Round of 32 UEFA Cup match for the second year in succession, as Irish referees continue to earn significant international recognition.

Kelly’s appointment to a Round of 32 UEFA Cup match last season was the first such appointment for an Irish referee in over 25 years. UEFA has confirmed that Kelly will again be appointed to a Round of 32 match, when he officiates between Deportivo La Coruna and Aa Alborg on February 26th.

Kelly, who hails from Cork, will lead an all-Irish delegation, with Marc Douglas and Damien McGrath named as Assistant Referees and Anthony Buttimer named as the Fourth Official.

The match is one of a number of high profile games to feature Irish officials over the coming months.

David McKeon will lead a team of Irish officials to take charge of the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Liechtenstein and Russia on April 1st, while Irish officials will also be involved in several Under-21 international friendly matches in February and March.

Rhona Daly, Paula Brady and Hilda McDermott will also be involved in two women’s tournaments being organised in March, which will take place in Holland and La Manga.
