Dennehy signs for Cork City
Cork City have completed the signing of midfielder Billy Dennehy from Derry City. The 21-year-old has joined the Leesiders on a two-year deal and becomes new manager Paul Doolin's third new signing after the recent arrivals of Fahrudin Kuduzovic and Dan Connor to Turners Cross.
Dennehy had spells at Sunderland and Accrington Stanley in England before returning to Ireland and Derry last August. However, after struggling to make an impression on Stephen Kenny, the youngster was linked with a move away from the Brandywell last month when Dundalk were reported, by the Derry Journal, to have been given permission to speak with him. Speculation on Dennehy's future has been quiet since then, until now, as the Tralee native has decided to return to the south of the island.
"I’m very pleased to have signed a two-year contract with Cork," Dennehy told the club's official website. "I know quite a few of the lads here already, and having had a spell with Derry last season when I came back from England I have some experience of the League as well. Paul is building a good squad here and I’m really glad to be a part of it. Training has been very good and I am just looking forward to the season ahead now."
