Cork beat Bohs to secure U20s glory
A controversial extra-time penalty from Paul Deasy gave Cork City's under 20s a narrow victory over Bohemians in the final of the Dr. Tony O’Neill Cup at O'Shea Park in Blarney on Sunday.
With no goals after 90 minutes, the game looked to be heading to penalty kicks before Deasy converted a spot-kick in the second period of extra-time, after Cork's Eddie Carroll had been upended by Ryan McEvoy inside the area.
Paul Hunt in the Bohemians goal pushed the spot-kick on to the underside bar, but the ball rebounded down and over the line. The young Gypsies protested, but after consulting with his linesman, the referee awarded the goal.
Bohemians, who had already had central defender Patrick Collins sent off in normal time, were reduced to nine men immediately after the goal, when a player recieved his second booking for over-protesting.
