Fenlon free to sign players after squad agrees to pay cuts
Bohemians manager Pat Fenlon has been given the green light to start recruiting new players after the existing squad agreed to take pay cuts.
Players already on the books are said to have accepted cuts of "more than 15%" over the weekend, following discussions with the club's board over the past few weeks.
With just 12 of last year's double winning squad side still on the books at Dalymount Park, Fenlon is now expected to move quickly to bolster the squad ahead of the new season, which gets underway in less than six weeks. Potential new signings include former Drogheda United trio Stuart Byrne, Paul Keegan and Brian Shelley, who all trained with the club last week. Ex St Patrick's Athletic midfielder Joseph Ndo and former Shamrock Rovers striker Ger Rowe have also been mentioned as other possible new recruits.
Fenlon is also expected to try and re-sign several members of last year's squad who were out of contract at the end of last season. Midfielders Stephen O'Donnell and Gary Deegan are both still unattached, as well as Chris Konopka and Mindaugas Kalonas.
Bohemians head off to Marbella in Spain next week as the step-up their preparations for a campaign which will see them fight for honours on five fronts. While in Spain, the Gypsies will take on Lokomotiv Moscow in a friendly on February 8th. Before they depart for warmer climes, they travel south this coming Saturday to take on Waterford United at the RSC.
