Bohemians sign Beattie and McCabe
Steven Beattie and Philip McCabe have joined Bohemian FC as Owen Heary puts the final touches to his squad for the start of the league campaign, which commences in just over two weeks.
Well-travelled striker Steven Beattie had been on trial with Bohs for the pre-season and impressed as he scored a hat-trick in the 4-0 win over Swords Celtic. Steven started his career at Northern Kentucky University, where he broke records as he scored over fifty goals in his four years and earned various Player of the Year awards. Steven was then selected to be part of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft, in which Toronto FC drafted him.
He left Toronto to play for the Puerto Rice Islanders in the North American Soccer League before he moved to Iceland to join UMF Tindastoll in July 2012. Steven Beattie helped Tindastoll to an eighth place finish in 2012 and he stayed with the club for the 2013 season, where they finished ninth in Iceland’s First Divison. Steven left Tindastoll in September of last year, after eighteen months at the club.
This isn’t the first time Steven has been on trial with an Airtricity team as he was on trial with Dundalk back in 2012, before he decided to move to Iceland. The forward posted on twitter that one of the reasons he joined Bohs was “the opportunity to call Dalymount home.”
Philip McCabe returns to Dalymount from Malahide United having played for Bohs during the 2012 season. Philip made his debut for Bohemians back in May 2012, playing in a 2-1 defeat against Derry City.
The defender left the Gypsies to join Dundalk in July 2012. He only played once for the club though, coming on as a sub against Cork City. In January 2013, Philip signed for Shelbourne but again he only managed one league game, coming on against his former club Dundalk in a 3-1 defeat in March.
Both new signings played in Bohemians’ 2-1 friendly win over Tolka Rovers on Monday night. Steven Beattie started the game as a right midfielder, and set up Stephen Traynor for the opening goal of the game, while Philip MCabe came on at left back for the last twenty minutes of the match.
