Cork City add duo to squad
Cork City have signed Kevin Mulcahy and Mark O’Sullivan as they prepare for the start of the 2014 Premier Division.
Kevin signed this morning from Avondale United, after he impressed in Cork’s pre-season preparations. The left back was speaking to CorkCityFC.ie about joining the club saying “I’ve enjoyed the few weeks I’ve been training with the club, and when John said he wanted to sign me I was delighted.”
He then added that he knew both John Cotter and John Caulfield from before, saying “I’ve worked with John Cotter for the last two years, which have been brilliant, and I knew John Caulfield from playing against him and I knew that he was a good manager.”
John Caulfield was very happy signing up Kevin for Cork. The City manager said “We are delighted to sign Kevin. He is another local player with huge potential.” The manger feels that the addition of Kevin will benefit the squad, saying that “He is very strong, aggressive and a very skilful player. He is naturally left-footed, which is something we do not have much of in the team.”
Cork have now signed three players from Avondale United with Kevin joining Liam Kearney and Mark O’Sullivan at the club.
Mark returns to the club after playing there briefly in Cork’s 2010 season in the First Division. The striker has recently been with Avondale United in the Munster Senior League and he has won four FAI Intermediate Cups with them.
Mark told CorkCityFC.ie that he is happy to have joined Cork under John Caulfield. He said “I’ve worked with John Caulfield and John Cotter before, and they are excellent coaches, so I am looking forward to working with them again.” He then told the club’s website that his target “is to try and win a place in the team and do well.”
Cork coach John Cotter also spoke to Cork’s website, saying that Mark will add to the squad. “He’s very strong, very direct player, he can run at players and bring other people into the game and he scores goals as well, so hopefully he can do so at this level as well,” before pointing out that “John (Caulfield) actually signed him for Avondale and I have managed him for the last few years, so we know him very well personally, and also what he brings on the pitch.”
Cork City’s pre-season continues next week, with a friendly against Longford Town on February 15th at 2pm.
