Shelbourne finish off squad with three signings
Shelbourne have announced that Darren Tinnelly and Charlie Tracey have re-signed for the 2014 season while Dylan McGlade has been signed from their u19 squad. These are the Dublin-based club’s fifth signings this week after Adam McDonnell and Keith Quinn joined earlier this week.
The new team has a completely new look to it for the upcoming First Division campaign, with only four players remaining from the team that played UCD at the end of last season. Only Dylan Connolly, Darren Tinnelly, Lee Murtagh and Stephen Sheerin are left from the eighteen man squad that lost 2-1 to UCD.
The new Shels definitely has a youthful look to it now with no fewer than thirteen being below the age of twenty. Eleven of those players, including Dylan McGlade and Adam McDonnell, have come from this season’s u19 squad, which is currently top of the table in the Elite Division. Dylan signed for them in October of last year after leaving Middlesbrough while Adam has been with Shelbourne since u17s.
Darren Tinnelly re-signs for the club after joining them at the start of last season. Before that he spent time in America, playing college football for Middle Georgia in 2012. The forward played in seventeen games in the Premier Division last year, mostly appearing off the bench. He did score twice though, both against Cork City. One in a 1-1 draw in Cork, the other in a 2-1 win over Cork at Tolka Park in July.
The news that goalkeeper Charlie Treacy has also re-signed for Shelbourne will be welcomed after Lee Burdon joined Luxembourg club FC Differdange 03 on the 31st of January. Treacy was originally signed up as a goalkeeping coach in May of last year, but signed amateur forms until the end of last season to provide cover.
Keith Quinn also completed his move to Shelbourne from Longford Town this week. Keith played nineteen league games for the Midlanders in the First Division last year as they just missed out on promotion, losing to Bray Wanderers in the play-offs.
These signings bring the squad number up to twenty-eight for the 2014 campaign. The Shelbourne squad to be challenging in the First Division is: Greg Murray, Nathan Murphy, Charlie Treacy; Brian Gannon, Robert Gaul, John Sullivan, Ryan Robinson, Simon Dixon, Lee Desmond, Adam O’Connor, Shane McGrane; Jordan Keegan, Matthew Taylor, Shane Dolan, Gareth Coughlan, Keith Quinn, Adam McDonnell, Dylan Connelly, Dylan Cashin, Stephen McDonnell, Stephen Sheerin, Philip Hand, Dylan McGlade; Michael Duffy, Lee Murtagh, Conor Murphy, Jake Donnelly, Darren Tinnelly.
The new Shelbourne will have their first test of the season on Tuesday the 11th when they play Shamrock Rovers in a friendly at 4.15pm. The game was to be at Tolka Park but due to the weather, it has been moved to the AUL Complex.
