Derry City sign Mark Stewart
Former Kilmarnock striker Mark Stewart joins Derry City as Roddy Collins begins preparations for the start of Premier Division.
The Scottish player started off his career at Falkirk in 2006, scoring nineteen goals in seventy-seven appearances, before earning a move to English side Bradford City in July 2011. He played twelve games for Bradford but failed to find the net in that time.
He returned to Scotland quickly, going on loan to Hamilton in January 2012. He played thirteen games and scored once there. He stayed in Scotland after being released by Bradford City at the end of the season, signing for Dundee in August 2012.
He played seventeen games for Dundee, and scored three times, as they were relegated to the Scottish First Division at the end of the season. He signed for Kilmarnock in July 2013 after being released by Dundee.
Mark told derrycityfc.net that he was “over the moon to have signed for Derry City,” before adding, “I was very impressed with the management team’s enthusiasm and the professional nature of the club.”
Mark admits that the Europa League was also a pull, “The draw of Europa League football was also a big factor, I missed out playing in the competition a few years ago due to injury and this is the year I get to put that behind me.”
Roddy Collins also spoke to the club’s website about how happy he was with his latest signing. “He has tremendous pace and skill which was exactly what I was looking for. He’s a great lad that fitted in with the squad as soon as he arrived. As far as I’m concerned he ticked all the boxes for me and Mark will get better and better as the season goes on.”
