Liam Kearney returns to the Cross
Cork City FC have announced the signing of Liam Kearney, who returns to Turner's Cross after spending a number of years in Australia with Dandenong Thunder SC and, more recently, a spell at home with Avondale United.
The 30-year-old has already won silverware with the Leesideers during his previous stints with the club including the League title, FAI Cup and Setanta Sports Cup.
The former Nottingham Forest, Derry City and Waterford United player, scored the winning goal in the Setanta Sports Cup final in 2008 against Glentoran on his last appearance for the Rebels.
And speaking to the club’s website, Kearney said he’s here to bring more success to Cork City FC.
“I want to play; I’m not here to make up the numbers. I’ve had a good career and I want to push on now again, and hopefully bring more trophies to the club. This is a huge club, and when I look around the players who are there in training, I can tell straight away they have great attitudes.
"We have a good squad coming together now, and it is great to be back and be part of it. I love being back and being around the club, and hopefully I can get back to playing my best football.”
Kearney left Cork for Stephen Kenny’s Derry City at the end of the 2008 season, with the club in difficulty off the field.
Commenting on the signing, the new City manager John Caulfield said he is delighted to welcome Kearney back to Turner's Cross.
“I’m delighted to have Liam back. He had some fantastic seasons with us when he was younger, and I think in some ways that there have been missed opportunities for him. From speaking to him, he has shown a lot of ambition and wants to win trophies.
“His enthusiasm and his work-rate in training have been fantastic. I was always an admirer of him as a player and I certainly believe he has a lot to offer us. I feel that he has the bit between his teeth at the moment and he really wants to get back playing and win trophies.”
