Mulvenna signs for Glenavon

Dundalk striker Tiarnan Mulvenna has parted company with the club in order to hook up with Dankse Bank Premiership side Glenavon.
Mulvenna, 25, has put pen to paper on an 18-month contract with the Mourneview Park men and is available for selection for Tuesday night’s league tie with Glentoran and is already eyeing success north of the border.
“I’m coming here to try something different and hopefully get results because I’m not after second best or anything like that,” he said of the switch. Hopefully we can push on now in the Cup this year and then concentrate on trying to get into the top six and look to progress next season.”
The former Drogheda United man says that Glenavon boss Gary Hamilton was the major draw in encouraging him to sign on the dotted line and is also looking forward to the rarity of a summer break having made the switch to a league which runs from August until May.
“Gary Hamilton is the reason I’m here. Everyone knows what he has done up here and is one of those characters who you either love or hate but from what I’ve been told at the moment I love him,” Mulvenna continued. He sold it to me and everything around the place looked proper so this is the club I’ve picked.
“I’ll also get a summer holiday for the first time in 10 years! But the fixtures are just part and parcel of football and it doesn’t matter what seasons you play. It will be good to be playing on a grass pitch for a change too instead of the astro turf in Dundalk and I can’t wait to get started.”
His new manager was also glowing in his praise of Mulvenna, pleased at beating a number of other clubs in order to get the man who scored twice for the PFAI XI last week in their victory over Cherry Orchard.
Hamilton stated: “I’m delighted to have brought Tiarnan here. A number of clubs down south were in for him as well as Ballinamallard. He has a lot of pace, which we have been lacking, and will bring good technical ability to the front line. He is young and his versatility will be very valuable to us.”
