Rice signs for Longford Town
Longford have bolstered their squad just before pre-season with the announcement that Stephen Rice has signed for the club after his release by Shamrock Rovers.
The midfielder had spent six years at Shamrock Rovers before he was allowed leave in November of last year. In that time, Stephen played in over one hundred and fifty games for the club, scoring eleven goals in the league and scoring the goal against Tottenham Hotspur in Rovers’ memorable Europa League campaign.
He was captain of a very successful Shamrock Rovers side as they won the 2010 league title and he followed that up with another league title, two Setanta Cups and a Leinster Senior Cup. He also was voted the club’s Player of the Year in 2010.
The signing of Stephen Rice has been part of a busy week for Longford Town as Tony Cousins builds a squad for the 2014 First Division season. The signing follows the announcement that Don Cowan will return to the club after his spell over in England with Stevenage and Southend United and with Dundee in Scotland. Don has recently been with the PFAI Squad at the FifPro tournament for out of contract players, where he scored Ireland’s only goal as they finished in fourth place.
