Daryl Horgan becomes a Lilywhite
Dundalk Football Club have today announced the signing of Daryl Horgan from Cork City, concluding what has been one of the more protracted domestic transfers in recent times.
The Republic of Ireland under 21 international will officially put pen to paper at the Dundalk FC Stand in the Marshes Shopping Centre on Friday at approximately 12.15pm.
Horgan first joined Cork City on loan during the 2011 season, and quickly became a fan’s favourite with a series of scintillating performances and top-drawer goals. In 2013 the former Salthill Devon and Sligo Rovers winger was rewarded for these performances when he was first called up for the national under 21 side, before later being selected on the PFAI team of the year by his peers.
Extratime.ie exclusively revealed earlier this month that Horgan would be leaving Turner’s Cross, and it is believed that Dundalk have always been to the fore-front in the race for his signature since then.
As also revealed by Extratime.ie last week, a deal was then struck between Dundalk and the out of contract player, but because Horgan was under 23, the Louth club would have to compensate Cork City who still held his registration. After much negotiation between the two clubs, the matter of compensation has now been resolved.
By switching from Turner’s Cross to Oriel Park for 2014, Horgan also joins up with the other two PFAI Player of the Year nominees for 2013, Richie Towell and Patrick Hogan,. The signing is seen as a further signal of intent from manager Stephen Kenny who has also added David McMillan from Sligo Rovers.
Extratime.ie will bring you reaction from Oriel Park on the Daryl Horgan signing over the coming days.
