Cockney Rebel signs back for Cork

Cork City have this morning announced the re-signing of Danny Murphy on a one year deal.

The “Cockney Rebel” is the 17th player to sign for the Leesiders so far this off-season, as manager John Caulfield puts the finishing touches to his side.

Having joined the Rebel Army first in 2004, the 31 year old defender is in his third spell at the club and speaking to CorkCityFC.ie it was clear that he had lost none of his ambition or hunger.

“We’ve signed some quality players. Next season is an opportunity for everyone to show their worth and show how much they want to play for the club.

“I want to be back playing in Europe again. I want to be in the top four and challenging for trophies. I know John has that ambition as well, and that is where I want to be. As a club, we need to be winning things.

“I had to put work as my priority. I still wanted to be able to commit to the club, and thankfully the people I am working for, Wisetek, have given me the opportunity to be able to train and work as well.”

Also speaking to CorkCityFC.ie, Caulfield was delighted to have the left back sign back and sees Murphy playing an important role for Cork City next season.

“Danny is a very experienced player and has great history with the club. He has played a lot of games and rarely misses a game either. We have a great mixture of youth and experience in the squad, and Danny is a vital signing and a valuable asset to the squad.”

“We are working very hard and looking to see if we can add to the squad. There are a few things happening and discussions are taking place with a few different players, and obviously I am still hoping to bring in one more. We have a few guys lined up already to come in on trial in pre-season to have a look at them.”
