Danny Ventre signs for Derry City
Derry City have moved quickly to secure the signature of Sligo Rovers captain Danny Ventre. The 27 year-old was unveiled to City fans at a forum meeting with the new management team of Roddy Collins and Peter Hutton this evening.
Having failed to agree terms with Ian Baraclough's side to return to the Showgrounds, Ventre has moved north to link up with the Candystripes. Ventre is Collins' third signing, following Athlone Town duo Roddy Jnr Collins and Enda Curran to the Brandywell. He has been a free agent since captaining Sligo to FAI Cup glory in November.
Ventre had been a mainstay at the Showgrounds for the past six years, having arrived from Accrington Stanley in 2007. Having been brought to the club by Paul Cook, Ventre's versatility saw him deployed in various positions for the Bit O'Red, and he captained the club to their first title in 37 years in 2012, as well as winning two FAI Cups during his time.
