Athlone Town league winning book launched
A new book detailing Athlone Town’s 2013 First Division winning season has been launched by Athlone journalist Kevin O’Neill.
The book was launched last week by the journalist after a dramatic season in which Roddy Collins led his Athlone Town side to the Premier Division.
Entitled 'In Rod We Trust: How Athlone Won The League', the book tells the story of a dramatic season in the club's recent history, including match by match analysis and countless interviews with Roddy Collins and many of the players from last season.
While marking the club's most recent renaissance, the book also delves into the club's long and illustrious past. There are interviews with Turlough O'Connor, Larry Wyse, Eugene 'Pooch' Davis, Noel Larkin and many more of the club's former players, including John Minnock, who recalls his memories of missing that famous penalty against AC Milan.
There is also a full chapter dedicated to people's memories of the club's former home, St Mel's Park. The book costs €15 with no added fees for postage, and was launched on Friday in the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone.
The book can be ordered by emailing Kevin at kevoneill1@yahoo.ie.
