Forrester & Quigley commit to Saints for 2014

There was good news on the double for St Patrick’s Athletic fans on Friday night as the club announced the re-signing of Mark Quigley and Chris Forrester for 2014.

Forrester, who turns 21 on Tuesday, was the first to be announced as he took to his twitter page to confirm his new contract at the club.

Saints fans had initially feared the worst when Bristol City had taken the promising midfielder on trial in November, but the 2013 Airtricity Premier Division champions need not have worried as Forrester committed to their 2014 Premier Division (and Champions League) cause.

The good news didn’t stop there for the Saints however. As the news of Forrester’s new contract saw the player and club trend on Twitter in Ireland, the buzz around St Patrick’s Athletic went into overdrive when the club announced the capture of Mark Quigley who had only days earlier been released by Shamrock Rovers.

Widely recognised as one of the most lethal strikers in the league and crowned the 2012 PFAI Player of the Year, Quigley joined Shamrock Rovers at the end of his 2012 league winning season. The Hoops were to be Quigley’s fifth club in five years, but the striker never got going and left the Tallaght club half way through his two year contract last week.

In joining St Pats, the 28 year old joins the club for a second time having played at Inchicore from 2006 to 2009. During that time the former Milwall striker notched an impressive 52 goals in 154 games.

Quigley is the 18th Saints player which Liam Buckley has confirmed to have signed for the 2014 season as he looks forward to welcome Champions League football back to Inchicore.
