Five commit to Finn Harps
New Finn Harps boss Ollie Horgan has secured five more signings as he prepares for his first season in charge of the Donegal club.
Horgan has secured deals for Mark Forker, Tommy Bonner, Sean McCarron and Damian McNulty, all of whom featured prominently at Finn Park last season, as well as Packie Mailey, who returns to the club after a two-year absence.
Having persuaded Kevin McHugh, Ciaran Coll, James Doherty and Michael Funston to commit to the club, Horgan pulled off a coup by enticing Mailey back to senior football, with the former Harps captain having spent two years away from the League of Ireland. Having attracted interest from Derry City during the 2011 season, the big centre-back opted for a change of scenery at the end of that season, and most recently spent time with Ulster Senior League side Drumkeen United.
Speaking on securing Mailey's signature, Horgan said: "It’s great that Packie has joined us and he knows exactly what this club is all about having been here in the past. We are continuing to get our squad in place for the new season and Packie is another welcome addition to the eight who we have already confirmed for next year.”
Mailey is joined by former team-mates Forker and Bonner in securing deals. Gweedore-native Forker became the 60th Harps player to reach 100 games for the club last season, while Bonner is just two games off that tally. Both will bring experience to the new Harps side, along with McHugh, Funston and Mailey.
Sean McCarron, who notched ten goals for the club last season has also agreed terms to remain at the club, while centre-back Damian McNulty will also begin his second year at Finn Park.
Speaking on the signings, Horgan said: "Things have been going well so far as we get ready for the new season.
“It’s been a busy few weeks since I took the job and we still have a lot of work to do before the squad returns for pre-season training in the New Year. It’s great to have to a number of the squad already sorted and I’m hopeful that more deals will be agreed in the next few weeks.”
