Dun-deal for Daryl Horgan
One of the more talked about transfer stories of the off-season is expected to be concluded shortly as Extratime.ie have learned that Dundalk will announce the capture of Ireland under 21 international Daryl Horgan from Cork City.
Last week Extratime.ie exclusively revealed that Horgan was set to leave the Leeside club with Shamrock Rovers and Dundalk hot in pursuit, but it is the 2013 Airtricity Premier Division runners up who have gotten their man.
It is believed that a deal between the former Sligo Rovers winger and Dundalk was agreed as early as last Monday, however as Horgan is under 23 the matter of compensation for Cork City had to be addressed.
Negotiations between the clubs took place last week regarding an upfront compensation payment but the subject of a sell on percentage is also believed to have been a key part of discussions.
With the signing of Horgan, Dundalk will have all three PFAI Young Player Of the Year nominees in their side for 2014 as they look to build on their remarkable transformation that saw them go from bottom club in 2012 to runners up this year.
The move will come as a blow to Cork City’s new manager John Caulfield, but with Horgan having travelled to Torquay and Barnsley on trial before signing for Dundalk, the move will come as no surprise to the City boss who is understood to be examining alternatives including former Cork City winger Liam Kearney.
Over the coming days, Extratime.ie will bring you all the reaction from Oriel Park as well as all the latest transfers in the League of Ireland as they happen.
