Ndo, Cawley & Spillane sign for Sligo Rovers

Sligo Rovers continued a busy week of signing and re-signing players with the addition of three more members to their squad for next season.

Midfield duo David Cawley and Joseph Ndo have renewed their contracts while Kalen Spillane becomes the club’s third new signing following the arrivals of Paul O’Conor and Danny Ledwith.

Spillane joins The FAI Cup holders from Cork City following a four year spell at Turner’s Cross where he most notably helped the club achieve promotion back to the Airtricity League Premier Division in 2011.

Mayo man Cawley has re-signed for a third season with Sligo. The 22-year-old didn’t waste time in securing a starting place of his own shortly after his arrival in February 2012 and his impressive form was rewarded with a contract for the 2013 season and a nomination for the PFAI Young Player of the Year award.

Veteran midfielder Ndo has meanwhile committed himself to a fifth season at The Showgrounds, the longest stint he has had with any League of Ireland club.

The 37-year-old spoke to sligorovers.com after penning his new deal and talked about his ambition to help Sligo Rovers become the top club in Irish football and make progress in Europe.

“My ambition is to help the club to be the best in Ireland and help the club compete in Europe every year.  It's going to be about how we approach the next season. It isn't about being talented. You can be as talented as you want. If the approach is not right, the results will not follow. It is all about the approach and the goal we set when the pre-season starts. It all starts there.

“Always the goal is to achieve something that you feel is untouchable. For us, the group stage and competing is untouchable. That is what you have to work for, you have do more than you think you are capable of. If you want something you have never had, you have to be willing to do something you have never done.”
