Harps Chairman sets the record straight
Finn Harps Chairman Derek Wilkinson has hit out at rumours that he says are affecting the fundraising campaign currently being undertaken by the club.
Mr. Wilkinson stated that "when we launched this appeal before Christmas support from people in the North West was fantastic and our public meeting in Jacksons Hotel at the start of January was successful.
"Unfortunately over the last week, the club has become increasingly concerned in relation to a number of rumours which have been in circulation," said Mr. Wilkinson. "These rumours would seem to infer that Finn Harps do not have a financial problem and that the appeal is only a way to supplement the budget.
"This is mischievous and absolute rubbish. The people responsible for these rumours are no friends of Finn Harps. On my own behalf, and on behalf of the board of Finn Harps, I can assure the public that all funds raised are going towards the elimination of Finn Harps outstanding debts as part of a programme agreed with the FAI."
"Let it be very clear that if sufficient funds are not raised in the timeframe previously outlined this will create significant problems for Finn Harps. I again appeal to the public to support our fundraising efforts by purchasing Apartment Draw tickets, donating to the Friends of Finn Harps, purchasing Season Tickets and supporting the club Lotto. The future of Finn Harps depends on the support of the public."
It was revealed last week that Harps playing budget for the coming season could be as little as one sixth of what it was last season
