Caulfield appointed Cork City boss
Cork City have this morning announced the appointment of John Caulfield as first team manager. The former Avondale and UCC manager joins on a two-year contract having beaten 50 other candidates to the top job on Leeside.
Speaking to CorkCityFC.ie on his appointment, the club’s all time joint topscorer was looking forward to getting started.
“I have always been very passionate about the club. I am delighted that FORAS have given me this opportunity and I am certainly looking forward to working very hard and hopefully bringing good days back to the club.”
Caulfield also holds the club’s record for appearances, and has been a frequent visitor to Turner’s Cross since he hung up his boots in 2002. The Leesiders have finished sixth for the past two seasons, and again speaking to CorkCityFC.ie the 49 year old manager believes the club “can get higher”.
“The potential at this club is fantastic and I really want to see if we can get the crowds back in and make Turner’s Cross a fortress again.
“I want us to be really competitive, have a passionate team and when people come in the gates at the ‘Cross, see that these guys really want to do it for City.”
It will be straight into it for the league’s newest manager, as he goes about signing up the players from the 2013 squad that he wants for 2014.
“The most urgent thing is to talk to the players that were at the club last season and tie up the players that we can. I want a base of good, strong local players. We have a very good Under 19 set- up so we will look to promote players from within, and obviously attract players from the county and the province.”
