FAI announce Poznan friendly

The Republic of Ireland will return to Poznan on November 19 to face Poland in an international friendly.

The game could see a new man in the Irish dug-out with Ray Houghton and Ruud Dokter expected to update the FAI Board of Management on the search for Giovanni Trappattoni’s successor before the squad announcement in early November.

Ireland played two of their three European Championships games at the Municipal Stadium in Poznan, resulting in defeats to Croatia and Italy.

The match will be the 25th meeting between the nations, the last of which was a 2-0 win for Ireland at the Aviva Stadium in February with Ciaran Clark and Wes Hoolahan on the scoresheet.

Poland have the upper hand since the two countries first met in 1938 with 10 wins, eight draws and six defeats.

Poland are also without a manager after Waldemar Fornalik was sacked earlier this week for failing to guide the side to the 2014 World Cup.
