Bohemians 0 - 2 Sligo Rovers
Sligo Rovers returned to winning ways in the League following a 2-0 win over Bohemians in Dalymount Park on Saturday night.
Goals in either half from Gavin Peers and Aaron Greene secured the three points for The Bit O’Red on a night when Bohemians will feel they should have come away with at least point.
Rovers created the first chance after just three minutes when David McMillan crossed from the left for Anthony Elding, but the big striker couldn’t get the accuracy in his header.
Both sides pushed for an opening goal and it was the visitors who broke the deadlock after 16 minutes when a Kieran Djilali corner found Gavin Peers who rose highest to head past Dean Delany.
Bohemians almost equalised minutes later when a corner from right found Luke Byrne at the far post but the defender could only find the side netting with a drilled effort.
Stephen Traynor forced Gary Rogers into his first save after 24 minutes when he struck from the edge of the box.
Bohemians should have been level after 36 minutes when Conor Kelly got on the end of a well worked free-kick, but he blazed a header well over the bar from close range.
The home side’s best opportunity of the game came just before the break as Anthony Murphy got on the end of a Karl Moore corner but his headed effort was blocked off the line.
Murphy almost atoned for his earlier missed sitter six minutes into the second half when he was played through by Moore, curling a shot just inches wide of the target.
Against the run of play, Sligo doubled their lead through a swift counter-attack. Anthony Elding flicked a ball forward for David McMillan, who in turn quickly played in Aaron Greene who burst through the Bohs before finishing.
There was little in terms of chances following Greene’s goal, Luke Byrne having the best of the chances as he tried to beat Gary Rogers from an angle after 79 minutes.
