Carey latest to turn down Cork offer
Brian Carey is the latest to have turned down the vacant manager’s position at Cork City according to sources close to the Wrexham assistant.
Carey, who played for the club in the late 80’s, was not one of the 15 interested parties who had originally applied for the job but he was contacted by Tom Coughlan earlier this week.
The ex-Manchester United and Leicester City player was manager of Wrexham before dropping down to the post of assistant manager last season. He writes a regular column for local Cork paper the Evening Echo and the former defender still has strong links with his home town. However, the main reason he rejected the clubs offer is thought to be based on family reasons.
40-year-old Carey is the latest in a line of names to have rejected Coughlan’s approach and it is now looking increasingly unlikely that a manager will be in place by the time that the team return to training, on Friday week.
The news comes after David Geddis, the man who Tom Coughlan said was the front runner for the job, rejected the offer put to him.
