Cecil Nyoni signs for Limerick FC

Limerick FC have boosted their squad depth with the signing of central defender Cecil Nyoni.

The twenty-year old defender had stints at both Sheffield Wednesday, where he made a competitive start against Blackpool in the League Cup in 2011, and at Nottingham Forest. Having had various loan spells at Boston United, Frickley Athletic and Worksop Town, Nyoni is no stranger to first team football, despite his age.

The young Zimbabwean defender expressed his delight at arriving at Limerick at the second attempt, having already been over at Limerick in February, but due to exterior influences, not signing at the time.

He said: “I was here in February and unfortunately I came too late to be part of his plans at the start of the season, I was happy to come in now. I’m looking forward to playing some first team football and paying back the faith Stuart has shown in me.”

Having had to shuffle between so many different central defensive partnerships this season, Taylor expressed his delight at having landed a young talent, to provide competition.

“He’s [Nyoni] a young centre back and has a good education in football in the UK, we knew all about him, I had him in at the start of the season back in February and he just lost out because of budget at the time as another deal had just been done.

"I told him that I’d keep an eye on him and to keep me posted on his progress until the transfer window and we’re delighted to get him back over here. He’ll go into the squad on Friday, so there’s good competition for places.”
