Sligo Rovers have confirmed that winger Ryan Connolly has signed for Longford Town on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old joins Tony Cousins' side with nine First Division fixtures remaining to aid their promotion ambitions. They are currently joint leaders with Athlone Town on 34 points, but sit in second place with an inferior goal difference.

Connolly joined the Premier Division champions in July 2012 following his release from Derby County, making 31 appearances and scoring one goal in a Setanta Sports Cup tie against Glentoran.

The Bit O' Red have also announced the departure of Colm McLaughlin by mutual consent. The left-back joined the club in 2011 along with Liam Martin on a scholarship scheme and played with the clubs Under-19 squad before going on to sign a professional contract in February 2012.
